Constance Tamon is a member of First Pres. Burlingame and currently
serves
as a Deacon. After
a trip home in April
of 2006, she shared with our church the terrible plight of her people
who are
perishing from the HIV/AIDS Pandemic in Sub-Saharan Africa. Some, who
have
perished, are her friends and family. Many
of the victims are not only stigmatized and shamed, but suffer a
painful and
needless death.

For this reason 1st Pres. Burlingame is seeking
a way to help out
my little village called Acha-Tugi in Cameroon.
During May of 2007, one
of our pastors and a group of lay leaders will go to Cameroon
to access the need of this
small village and to explore how we, here at Burlingame, may
best follow our Scriptural
mandate, “TO CARE for widows and orphans in their
distress.” Aids
can devour communities,
countries, and continents. Africa, today, is a case in
point. Aids, is
cruel to little ones, attacks and
destroys one soul after another. HIV is shaking the fiber of family and
society. We are
thankful that our church has arrived
at a defining moment of action.

Prayer:
Dear Lord, Please direct and lead our church as we
explore how best to help the victims
of HIV/AIDS as well as the orphaned children in Acha Tugi and elsewhere
as we
seek to follow your Spirit. Amen.
