New Hope Clinic – La Clinica Esperanza Nueva

The New Hope Clinic is located in San Francisco, Municipality of Orica, Honduras and is run by Dr. Cesar Davila.

The Clinic was created to answer the acute need of the people in the municipality of Orica. Life expectancy in Honduras is about 67 years and the infant mortality rate is nearly six times that of the San Francisco Bay Area at approximately 30 deaths per 1,000 births.

Dr. Davila, with a full time staff, offers medical services Monday – Friday and handles emergencies 24 hours a day.  With patients coming from 32 nearby communities, the New Hope Clinic is the only health care facility to treat infections, provide medications, provide gynecological and obstetrical services, perform minor surgeries and administer pastoral care.  He collaborates with local school programs to treat human parasitic infections and works to improve the environment of the communities he serves through re-forestation projects and other community building events.

For the past two years, First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame has sent teams of medical professionals and support personnel to assist Dr. Davila in his work and show the love of Christ in word and deed.  Included among the personal bags were crates of supplies, medications, pre-natal vitamins for the clinic’s use and hygiene products to distribute during health fairs.

We continue to support the clinic through prayer and material support.  To donate to the clinic, please send a check to First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame with Honduras Clinic in the memo. All funds will be used solely for the support of the clinic.  If you have questions about giving donating please contact the church office at (650) 342-0875.

If you would like more information on future mission trips to the New Hope Clinic please contact Sharon Bartels at (650) 343-2038 or click here to e-mail her.

Honduras Medical Mission Recap - May 2010

This year we sent a team of 17 to work with Dr. Davila in San Francisco de Orica, Honduras and traveled to 4 villages to provide medical screenings and health education to hundreds of people in 3 ½ days. Our team was organized into 5 work groups. Our Women's Health team taught Breast Self Exams, conducted PAP Smears, and treated many infections. The Dental team was divided into treatment and prevention. Our Blood Pressure/Blood Sugar/Height/Weight team were very busy as diabetes and hypertension are major problems in Honduras. The  Children's Ministry team provided crafts and games to approximately 200 children each day. Our Photography team took individual pictures of the children, printed them out, and mounted them in cardboard frames as gifts for the families. We had an incredible week. God's presence was at work, ministering to the people of Honduras as well as to us. Thank you for supporting this life changing ministry.
