Pastor's Welcome
All are Welcome
 |
|
You are a
chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation,
a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who
called
you out of darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a
people, but
now you are the people of God; once you had not received mercy, but now
you
have received mercy.
1 Peter 2:9-10
First Presbyterian
Church of Burlingame welcomes you to our
website and into our church family. We are formed around the
love of God
our Father who is made most perfectly clear to us in Jesus Christ by
Holy
Spirit power.
I believe you are meant
to have a place in this
household too—God Spirit is so compassionately
alive that each of us is able to grow spiritually
and serve
faithfully so our lives will have full meaning and power.
Our congregation was
formed 80 years ago to serve “north
Burlingame,” but now we not only encompass so many of this
wonderful city’s
folks, but also many make their homes in Hillsborough and San Mateo, as
well as
Millbrae and Foster City and beyond. Our purpose is for us
all to walk
our lives “in the steps of Jesus Christ.”
We welcome you warmly
regardless of where you are on your
life’s journey or on your spiritual journey. Some
of us are experienced
and faithful disciples of God, some are fairly new and excited to be
trying out
different experiences of faithful living, while still others are brand
new to
Christianity and open to all that God has in store. We do
believe in the
God who loves and accepts all peoples, as experienced in Jesus Christ.
But watch out!
God means to love us so much that we
won’t be left the same—we will become transformed
into new people—deeper,
better, kinder, happier. This
is my
prayer for you and your loved ones as you draw near to the fellowship,
the
teaching, the service, and the worship of First Pres.
Our church especially
welcomes you to our worship services
(see the nearby webpage with details) and into both small groups and
Bible
classes (on yet another nearby webpage) as well as into service
opportunities
where you make a difference in the life of another person.
We believe the Holy
Bible to be the sacred text which leads
us to the heart of God, and the classic Presbyterian expressions of
that faith
to be oh, so true (God is sovereign over all of life; we are saved by
grace
through faith alone [and not by our “good works!”];
we are a “priesthood of
believers” in which every person has an important role, and
we all learn from
each other as God speaks to us and through us.
Welcome
to one of God’s great churches.
Try us out; get to know us. We’ve been waiting for
you! |
