…for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me…
-Matthew 25:35, NRSV

What is Home & Hope?

Through community partnerships like our church, Home & Hope helps break the cycle of homelessness for families. By providing a network of emergency shelters, families are given a bridge back to self-sufficiency. Our church has been involved for about 15 years. Visit the Home & Hope website to learn more.

How Can You Help at Church?

From Sunday, October 28—November 11, in Fellowship Hall at church, we will provide shelter for families. They will be spending nights in tents and receive meals and companionship from those who volunteer. There are three roles we seek to fill:

  • Evening Meal Preparation & Hosting, 5:45 PM-9 PM
  • Tent Environment Set-up, 3 PM-4 PM
  • Tent Environment Disassembly, 11:15 AM-12:15 PM

Who Can Help in These Roles?

All of these roles are well-filled by individuals, families, or groups of friends!

Role #1: Evening Meal Preparation & Hosting

This role is 2-pronged:

Meal Preparation
You will prepare and serve a balanced nutritious dinner to a family during your shift. The meal can be prepared in advance at home and reheated at the church OR you can prepare the whole meal in the church kitchen. After dinner, you will help cleanup. Dishes, flatware, and napkins are all provided by the church.

Hosting
As a host, you will provide the loving kindness and companionship of Christ, while sitting with the families during dinner. Simply listening and talking to them is a great gift. How you spend the remainder of the time after dinner is up to you — perhaps helping the children with homework, playing a game, or doing a craft project. You can always contact the coordinator, Todd, for ideas.

Evening shifts span Sunday, October 28 through Saturday, November 10. Each shift starts in Fellowship Hall at 5:45 PM and completes at 9 PM.

Role #2: Tent Environment Set-up

Once the materials are delivered on Sunday afternoon, you will help setup the tents for about one hour. Setup happens on Sunday, October 28 at about 3 PM.

Role #3: Tent Environment Disassembly

Those serving on this team will disassemble the tents and prepare them for pick-up. Take-down happens  in Fellowship Hall on Sunday, November 11, at about 11:15 AM.
