“Every Man Dies, But Not Every Man Really Lives”
Every man has a set of responsibilities to do. We are workers, we are family shepherds and leaders, we try to be good husbands and caregivers for our spouses. And many of these life activities give us joy. But is this really living? These are responsibilities, tasks, areas of focus. Many of these parts of our lives are joyful tasks, but they are nonetheless often a list of tasks. But is this really living? Instinctively we know that there is more to life than even all of this. And so, most men find outlets to try to get “more out of life” (sports, drinking, hobbies). These outlets may give us more excitement but not more life. But is this really living?
In this retreat we will talk about and experience the real central promise of the Bible that Jesus Christ is the only real source of light and life. We will look at four men from the Bible who attempt to find meaning and life in less than meaningful ways:
- Peter (work)
- Younger Brother (reckless living)
- Older Brother (following the rules)
- Nicodemus (half-believing)
